The Raffadali Pistachio D.O.P. received this important recognition following in-depth studies and research conducted by the promotion committee.
A project begun in 2016 and based on a long-standing history and tradition.
The PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) is the most prestigious protection mark this product could aspire to.
On March 22, 2021, the registration of the name Pistacchio di Raffadali PDO was published in the Official Journal of the European Union, containing the product’s registration (class 1.6) in the register of protected designations of origin and geographical indications.
The PDO promotion committee, composed of Calogero Frenda (President), Salvatore Gazziano, Carmelo Bruno, and Franco Nocera, expressed enormous satisfaction with the result achieved.
“This is a significant achievement,” they stated, “thanks to the research and involvement of all stakeholders in the pistachio supply chain. The PDO will represent a new development and growth driver for the regions involved. The PDO will open up important opportunities for producers and processors of the Raffadali Pistachio PDO. European and international markets will now be able to count on a new, certified product of excellence. Obtaining the trademark will allow for greater protection of our product, and those in the supply chain will also be able to benefit from research and promotional tools.”
Thanks for achieving this result go to all those who have collaborated with the Promotion Committee over the years, starting with the producers, the processors, the offices of the Regional Department of Agriculture coordinated by Dr. Pietro Miosi, the PQAI IV offices, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry.
